Important Notes on Model Drawing

Dear 2C,

Some of you are struggling with model drawing.  Do not give up and keep practising. Below are some pointers that I always remind you in class when drawing models.


1. When you read a word problem, determine if you need to draw 'part-whole' or comparison model.
 If there is a word 'than' --> use comparison model . Otherwise, draw part-whole model.

2. When drawing comparison model, make sure your bars are aligned so that the difference between the bars is read accurately.

3. Some important key words are 'more than' and 'fewer than'.  The person who has more will have longer bar and vice versa. So it is important to understand the story sum and determine who have more and who have less.

4.It is important for you to be able to rephrase the question. For example, 'Ali has 20 fewer marbles than John' is the same as 'John has 20 more marbles than Ali'. This will help you to draw correctly.


5. Finally, a model must have
1) Label ( numbers / names)
2) The arrows / roof/ bracket (To indicate the start and end point )
3) The question mark ( What are you finding?)

Get your model drawing right as this is the foundation to understanding concepts in Upper Primary.

- Remember to slow down when you speak and present.
-Eye contact is important
- Engage your audience 

2. Do Math Worksheet on 'Part Whole Model' & 'Comparison Model (pg 2,3,4)

Homework 23 February

Dear Parents,

Kindly take note that I have returned the Show and Tell script to the children today. They can start practising the script to prepare for the Show and Tell delivery next week (week 9-  Thurs and Fri). You may help them to add more details to their script to improvise the presentation of the script.


* Do take note that there will be no more spelling test in Term 1.

2. Those who have not completed pg 89 of your Math Worksheet, submit tomorrow. Please ensure that you have drawn the correct model. 

• Your model must have

- Label ( numbers , and what the numbers represent)
- arrows/brackets/roof
- a question mark

• Remember to write number sentence.

     model drawing & number sentence.

1. Get parents to sign the little note about Show and Tell scripting stapled in yr school diary.

1. Do Math Talk and remember to clone the questions. I want to see the 'Group and Replace' in your working.

2. Math test papers are returned today. Remember to get it signed. It would be good if you can redo the questions that you got wrong.

Our Butterfly Garden!

During light snack break, we went on a mini tour around our Butterfly Garden.
You saw butterfly eggs underneath the leaves, caterpillars as well as the friendly butterflies.
Some of you were terrified when you spotted a bee on a flower. Hehe..
